Evolutionary histories are inferred from the classifications they are given. Data available for certain Helminthoglyptinae genera clarifies those relationships and taxon classification needs to be updated to at least Tribe in order to continue productive discussions within the literature and usage elsewhere. A monograph level treatment for the subfamily (Helminthoglyptinae) was last attempted by Roth 1996 who provided new classifications, many which remain unused. Clarification using new data has been wanting for decades and seems no closer, and may becoming less feasible due to increasing land access restrictions and curation costs. Therefore we must restrict ourselves to address the immediate need of taxa under active study. The taxa in question dwell in the arid desert Southwest of North America: Chamaearionta, Eremarionta, Cahuillus, Sonorelix, and Sonorella. Associated taxa will be reviewed for inclusion. include Greggelix, Herpeteros, Martirelix, Mohavelix, Maricopella, Myotophallus.
The Helminthoglyptinae encompass taxa that broadly occupy coastal Western North America and Mexico, and inland across the southwestern desert regions. The taxon this paper is concerned with occupy the Southwestern desert regions. This allows continued work to focus on evolutionary hypotheses within these taxa.
Recent work by Goodward et al. 2016 includes molecular data analysis (Figure ).
This document Bouchet and 2005 forms the basis of GBIF.org classification:

Discussing genera Chamaearionta, Eremarionta, and Cahuillus requires a new group, Eremariontamorpha or Eremariontini, or is there an earlier name?
Discussing genera Sonorelix and Sonorella already possess group Sonorellamorpha or is it Sonorellini?
1) Cahuillus (Roth 1996) is paraphyletic, embedded within Eremarionta. I see no reason to perpetuate the genus in the absence of an evolutionary hypothesis. Its species revert to Eremarionta. See Goodward et al. 2016.
2) Maricopella issues - review Roth 1996.
3) Myotophallus error within gbif.org; subgenus Sonorella myotophallus rooseveltiana.
